Nature trail on honeybees and wild bees

In cooperation with the incorporated German bee-keeper association (Deutscher Imkerbund e.V.) and the German nature conservancy association (Naturschutzbund Deutschland, NABU) the nature trail on honeybees (Apis) and wild bees (Apoidea and other) came into being in 2004. Here you can find interesting information on these keen little helpers.

The work of the bee-keepers is exposed in an illustrative way and the process of honey making from the pollen to the nectar is described. You can learn about honeybee dances or about the system through which they are able to find their way back to their colony. The reproduction and development of these remarkable insects is as interesting as the diversity of their products, which are due to their hard work. By looking at a group of beehives, the life of a honeybee colony can be observed during the warm season of the year. While stocks last you can buy our zoo-produced honey at the entrance.

By reading interesting facts about our wild bees, bumblebees, wasps, and hornets at the wild bee's information stand, you can learn and discover that these insects are very useful and represent an important part of our indigenous fauna.
