Seals & Penguins

A large colony of Humboldt penguins live in a new enclosure situated at a slope. For many years a successful breeding within the framework of the European Conservation Breeding Program (EEP) has been contributing to the preservation of this endangered species. To have a better look at the flexible and fast penguins while swimming and diving there are panes of glass in the pool. You will definitely enjoy yourself while observing a group of penguins waddling and hopping on their way to their breeding places in small caves situated a little higher up. The penguins at our zoo have been observed and explored intensively for years. There are films, some of which have been awarded and which are specially suited to children about the life of our penguin "Einstein" and his wild relatives. They are available at the entrance.

Right next to the penguins you can find our fur seal enclosure which was rebuilt in 2002. In a section of the coastal landscape of South America the elegant South American fur seals and California sea lion can be observed. They belong to one of the smallest seal species in the world.

Public feedings of the penguins and seals take place almost every afternoon and are especially fascinating and entertaining not only for our little guests.
