Research in the zoo ...
... in Darwins footprints

Landau Zoo offers diverse options for all institutions and persons for their own research work.

We cooperate with the University of Landau and Erlangen for instance. Thus, within the framework of zoological papers or thesises, systematic observations and data collections in the zoo will be scientifically analyzed from an ethnic point of view and will be summarized in a report.

Since 2000 our Zoo School, run by Ms. Dr. Gudrun Hollstein, constitutes the heart of the new work and research department for zoo and nature education of the institute for pedagogic and adolescent education of the University of Landau. Therefore the Zoo School is part of university research.

Interesting insights concerning biology and the keeping of Humboldt penguins can be drawn from many years of observation of this species in our zoo and also observations in the open land which are carried out at a private level. Research results in the field of keeping wild animals and medicine for wild animals are published regularly in specialist journals and in lectures at national and international symposium.

Only with the help of observations in the open land and information gathered in zoological institutions the long-term preservation of the world's biological diversity can be achieved.
