Friends
of the Landau Zoo
In
1975 the association "Freundeskreis des Landauer Tiergartens e.V." (Friends
of the Landau Zoo)was founded with the goal of supporting the zoo materially and
with ideas. By 2004 the association provided the Zoo with 1.2 million Euro for different
projects. The largest of these were the reconstructions of the enclosures for chimpanzees
and smaller monkeys, bears, and the African animals. In addition to these projects
the Friends of the Landau Zoo also donated several animal sculptures made of bronze.
Another ambition declared in the founding paper is to "increase the presence
of the Zoo in the field of nature studies and education". It therefore supplied
the Zooschool (founded in 1992) with furniture and technical equipment. Last but
not least it supports the active conservation programs of Landau Zoo with annual
donations. But not only financial support is given. Special events are held with
the practical aid of Friends of the Landau Zoo.
Members
of the association are granted free admission to the zoo for informational visits
and occasional extra tours in the Landau Zoo. The association organizes one-day excursions
to other zoos on a regular basis. Special highlights are the annual long-distance
travels that are organized by the Friends of the Landau Zoo association.

Adopting
an animal at the Landau Zoo
Adopting
an animal is another way to support the Zoo. By sponsoring a certain animal you can
help make Landau Zoo better for its inhabitants and thus more attractive for visitors.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors important new construction and reconstruction
measures have been accomplished. Examples of the construction work are the new enclosure
for Madagascan animals, the reconstruction of the deer enclosure, and the establishment
of the rescue and reintegration aviary for parrots.
Only
20 € a year makes you a sponsor of an animal at Landau Zoo. You can choose your
favorite from the list of animals that need sponsoring. Why don't you give an Animal
Adoption to you children, grandchildren, or friends for their next birthday as surprise
gift? Maybe you would like to contribute to the protection of a species with your
company. As a sponsor you will recieve a welcome package. If you wish so we can add
your name on the sponsor panel at the zoo entrance. You will be invited to opening
ceremonies for new enclosures and other special events. For further information please
